Your neighbors be the ones who throw shit on your lawn,
it’s like every single time we pop, they got annoyed,
but we got ahead, and we got along
.
— De La Soul

You know the thing about hating is that it’s a whole lot easier to find an imperfection than it is to bring something a bit closer to perfection. And I should know: I’ve done my fair share of hating over the years. But. I mean, for realz, I’m quoting De La Soul and dropping some ebonics up in this mutha f**ka…

    1. How do I really feel? I guess aggravated that now marketers are being held up to scrutiny under journalistic standards. Like I said, their f**king marketers! If they know their shit, their stuff should sell like hot cakes.

I think we need to take everything in context, and in this case, the successful marketers I have in mind have demonstrated marketing excellence, and I’m really, really happy for them. I just hope that I can learn something from their example.

  1. Hehehe, I really like the video. I can’t relate much to what you are saying here because I am not there (yet?).

I do think there is a fine line between exploitation and marketing though. I guess it all comes down to our own (personal) code of ethics.

  2. I love the banter at the end. She sounds so impressed. ;)

But about hating the game and not the player (or “playa”), I agree. I also think a lot of the “hate” has to do with inauthenticity, at least for me. If you come off as fake, people don’t want to buy what you’re selling. It doesn’t matter if your product rocks and will change their lives; people can smell the cash grab and steer clear. Unless you are, as Courtney Love put it, “so fake I am beyond fake,” in which case you can put it to good use, by going so extreme that you show you are really being honest, underneath it all.

    1. As far as fake people, I don’t think we should give them the lip service. If they smell fishy, just steer clear.

But I like the idea of “so fake I am beyond fake.” I wonder if I can think of any bloggers that might fit that.
